Expanding the age of foreigners staying for a long time using automatic immigration

The Ministry of Justice revised the Immigration Control Act to improve the convenience of long- stay foreigners (registered foreigners and domestic residential reporters) and expanded the age of automatic immigration from the current "over 17" to "over 7" (effective from January 1, 2023)

Foreigners aged 7 to 17 who stay for a long time must visit 19 registration centers nationwide to

register in advance in order to use the automatic immigration service.

 

  For those under the age of 14, consent to provide personal information is required, so legal representatives, such as parents, must visit with the applicant with related evidentiary documents and identification cards.

2. Registration procedures for automatic immigration examination of foreigners 

and submission documents
① Applicants for automatic immigration visit the registration center in person
 ※ Submission documents (2): passport, alien registration card, 

or domestic residence declaration certificate*
 * Where a foreigner's registration card, etc. is not issued because he/she is under the age of 17, 

he/she visits with only a passport
 ※ Provided, That where a legal representative is between the ages of 7 and 14, 

he/she shall visit with the applicant with evidential documents (such as birth certificates) 

and identification issued by the national government to prove that 

the legal representative is the legal representative

② Register fingerprint and face information
 ※ At the registration center, immigration officials obtain the applicant's fingerprint

and face information, so there is no need to submit a proof photo. 

③ Attachment of "Automatic Immigration Registration Confirmator" or 

"Automatic Immigration Registration Sticker" on the passport 
④ Automatic immigration is available immediately after registration is completed
