  • How to preapare for an online job interview
    Tips & know-how 2022. 12. 27. 17:45

    1. Download the software ahead of time so that you will have the opportunity to get used to it.

Some devices might work better with some platforms than others do. If you notice interruption, try asking others in the house not to use the internet while you are doing the interview and turn Wi-Fi on your phone off. You can also close all other applications on your computer.

    2. Create a profesional username, such as a variation on your real name as it appears on your resume.

Usernames provide a way to establish your identity online and connect with other people more easily. You may need to create usernames to communicate with colleagues or clients through company-provided software programs or chat platforms. Learning to choose a username that's professional and accurate may be beneficial if you regularly use chat programs or software within your role.

    3. Dress professionally even if you are sitting down.  Wear nice pants and shoes, as you never know when you may have to stand up.

Wearing professional clothes will probably get you in the right mindset. Also, what will your interviewee see in your background? Choose a space that won’t be too distracting for them. You can record yourself on platforms like Zoom to check how you look and sound.

    4. Clear your workspace and any clutter that is behind you so that it doesn't show up on the screen. You don't want your interviewer to assume that your disorganized space is a sign of how you'd perform as a worker

Working in a clean, neat and organized environment will relieve stress and help you to think clearer. After all, studies show a cluttered office results in a cluttered mind. Having boxes, files, documents and equipment surrounding you as you try to work can be distracting and inefficient.

    5. Make sure that you are in a quiet room where you will not be disturbed by people, pets, etc. Turn off your ringer, any alarms, and electronics that are likely to interrupt.

If that isn’t doable, could you ask them to try to be quiet for an hour or so while you do the interview? Or find a part of your home where you’re less likely to hear noise? If it’s possible, you could even go to another space, like a friend’s house, to do the interview. Besides putting your phone on silent, you can also switch off your household appliances. For example, a washing machine making noises in the background may disrupt your interview. You can also ask those living with you to remain quiet during your interview.
