  • Looking for a part-time job in Korea while doing your studies?
    Issues 2020. 5. 11. 18:28

Want to work part-time while doing your studies as an exchange student?

Here are some of the steps you need to know in order to start working.

Before looking for a job, you may be required to get permission from your University or college to work.

Contact your school’s international student center for details on how to apply.

Once you have approval by the school, you now need to look for a job.

As an Exchange Student, you probably will have a D-2 visa.

With this visa, you can only work part-time jobs

The jobs available for exchange students include: translation or interpretation work, assistant work at restaurants or offices, tour guide assistants or sales assistants in duty-free shops, and activities at an English village or English camp as a sales clerk, waiter/waitress or assistant staff

Head on over to jobbridge.kr, make an account and post your resume.

Search the available job through the D-2 visa filter and apply for the jobs you want.

Once you get employed, you need to get a form called the “Part-time Work of Foreign Student Confirmation Form” filled in and signed by both your employer and your school’s international student center.

You will also need to get a copy of the business license and a copy of your work contract

Before you can start working, you will need to apply for a part-time job permit at the immigration office.

This can be done either online or in person.

To apply online, head on over to HiKorea.go.kr and make an account.

Select ‘File an E-Application’ and then fill in the “Degree or Korean language course foreign student part-time working permission” form and attach the required documents.

It will take around 2 weeks to process your documents before you can receive and print out your confirmation of permission.

In some situations, applying in person may be more favorable because it may only take 2~3 days to receive your confirmation documents in person.

To apply in person, first check which immigration office you are required to go to.

There are currently three immigration offices in Seoul, and which you need to go to will depend on the location of your school or your residence. (If you are unsure, you can always call the immigration contact center at 1345 and they will assist you in 19 different languages.)

Once you have found which immigration office you need to go to, you need to reserve an appointment.

Head on over to HiKorea.go.kr and make an account. Select ‘File an E-Application’, select “reserve an appointment” next to “Degree or Korean language course foreign student part-time working permission” and then make a reservation.

Before you go for your appointment, make sure you have all the documents ready.

You will need to take your Visa, Alien Registration Card, a School Transcript of the latest semester with at least 2.0 GPA, a ‘Part-time Work of Foreign Student Confirmation Form’ signed by both your employer and school faculty, copy of the business license, copy of the work contract, and IELTS or TOEFL score (TOPIK score if you are take Korean language classes). You will also have to fill out application form No.34 while there. After you have handed in all the required documents you will be given a date to come pick up your confirmation document.

Once you receive your confirmation document, you are ready to work!

    Good luck!
